December 2020, Week 2

I release the mental burdens of expectations

“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”  Harriet Beecher Stowe

Does this resonate with anyone in relation to the fact that we are still dealing with this pandemic??  Yikes, it does for me and in a way it is bringing me hope!!!  I have been speaking to people lately and in one way or another it seems like we are all hitting another “COVID bottom” and I said to a few people - doesn’t it feel like when you had a small baby (or puppy) and they were not sleeping through the night and you were at your wits end?  Just when you felt like you couldn’t take it any longer, the baby slept!! I am hopeful in feeling this with the pandemic: we are all at our wits end, in that “tight place” - can we hold on, not give up and wait for the tides to turn?  Of course we can, anyone can do anything they put their mind to however why not make it a bit easier?  That is the point of this small spiritual community, The Calm Crew, to make the sticky times in life more manageable and to triple the joys!!!

We are all skidding along in this "COVID bottom", what can we do to support ourselves - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually?  Don’t give up, show up for yourself - listen to the meditations, move a little by taking a walk or taking one of the recorded yoga classes.  Also, get honest with yourself - you all know from my live classes that I teach a yoga of integrity - where we line up our thoughts, attitudes and actions with who we truly say we want to be.  Let’s release the mental burdens of expectations together.  If you have not already, make a short list of what you would like to do for the holidays, its different this year, but they can still be festive.  Now some might say - hmmm, I’m writing a list of "expectations” - yes and no.  Let’s make a list of things to be excited about, simple actions and then the key is to be fluid.  Yes enough with being fluid right?  I get it, but have the list, have the joyful thoughts and then if something happens to cause you to detour….then detour.  Release the attachments to the outcomes for this month and enjoy whatever comes your way.  Remember - “Obstacles are detours in the RIGHT direction”.  Expectations are not the problem, once again it's us lol!!!!  Let life unfold this month and enjoy this holiday season.

A few of you have asked if you can purchase the membership or a drop in class as a holiday  gift for someone - absolutely!!! Email me and I will share with you how to send them this gift of self care, super easy to do on the website!

“I’m Just Saying……”

If you have done a cleanse with me you have heard me talk about “dry brushing”.  I wanted to share this with all of you since the winter is a great time to incorporate this practice into your routine.

Dry brushing allows toxins to leave your body quicker. Your skin is your largest organ so when you remove dead skin cells, you allow yourself to sweat more efficiently.  You can buy one on amazon and you simply brush your dry skin before getting into the shower.  Even better, when you get out of the shower apply organic sesame seed oil for a warm, toxin free moisturizer.

Some notes from Health line on dry brushing:

"Dry brushing is a type of Ayurvedic medicine that has been around for centuries. It’s believed to have many health benefits. Some of the benefits may include:

    • stimulating the lymphatic system

    • exfoliating the skin

    • helping the body rid itself of toxins

    • increasing circulation and energy

    • exfoliation

    • helping to break down cellulite

Dry brushing works by exfoliating the skin. Practitioners of dry brushing rub a brush with coarse, natural-fiber bristles over their bodies in a particular pattern.   The idea is that the coarse fibers will help to remove dead skin and improve the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins through the pores.

Some people should avoid dry brushing or proceed with caution. People with open or inflamed skin, including people with eczema and psoriasis, should avoid dry brushing over the inflamed area. You should also avoid dry brushing over an open wound. You could introduce bacteria to the wound, which could lead to infection."

Remember who we are……..

Why the “Calm Crew”?  Think of the Scandinavian word - hygge: [ˈh(y)o͞oɡəˈho͝oɡə] NOUN -

a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).

synonym: calm

Together through The Calm Crew we will create a spiritual community of like minded people, conviviality, trying to find the calm and joy in life!
