June 2021, Week 2

I am that, I am

“You are responsible to the truth, but not for it.

Learn your truth, sit with it, own it, express it. Then: your done! No defending or babysitting your truth once you release it.  What other people say, think or do with it is none of your business! Because the second your truth hits someone else it gets mixed up with all their stuff and it’s not yours anymore, anyway. So let it be.

Let the truth exist outside of your body so you can get some breathing room and maybe even support.  Whatever that problem you have is - it belongs to millions of others too.  Nothing new under the sun, No shame. Only freedom.”

How does this land for you? Does it bring up any thoughts?  How is your throat chakra - open and balanced? closed?, too open lol?

Let’s break this quote down: first and foremost - learn your truth, sit with it - this is not easy and it takes focus and dedication to yoga and or meditation in some form.  Then with that gift of non judgemental awareness, you can own it and then comfortably express it.  Now…..how does it feel after you express it? Do you need approval or validation from others? Do you regret expressing your truth? Is it uncomfortable? It is absolutely uncomfortable, but necessary!!

When I started teaching yoga I knew the best way to be a leader was to be vulnerable and relatable.  I wanted students to come in and have a safe space to connect with themselves, kind of like a moving meditation.  This was different from most yoga classes, but to me it was important to be honest, open and hopefully students could start to think about their own lives as I shared mine.  I then took that to print when I started writing a weekly email to all my past, present and hopeful future students.  This was uncomfortable!!! Every week I would write and hit send and pray it was received and related to.  The Calm Crew has been a wonderful extension from these ways of teaching and my hope is that I am creating a community where we can all find our authentic “voices” and then live with integrity together!
