June 2021, Week 1

I am that, I am

“Darling,

You feel heavy because you are full of truth.

Open your mouth more, let the truth exist somewhere other than inside your body.”

Delta Hicks-Wilson

This month we have arrived at the 5th chakra, Vishuddha - the element is sound.

It is located in the throat,  neck, shoulders, thyroid, parathyroid glands, mouth, arms and hands.

Vishuddha governs our communication and is the link between emotion and thought.  The healthfulness of the 5th chakra is in relation to how honestly one expresses oneself.

It represents communication, expressing yourself, telling the truth, following your dreams and being true to yourself.  It is also strongly connected to listening.

When this chakra is out of balance - Speaking rudely, out of turn, or maliciously are common indicators your fifth chakra needs attention. Looking down on others, you become highly critical of minute details. The slightest, most innocent comment from someone may strike you as intentionally rude. You may even speak negatively about yourself, or others.

Additional common non-physical signs of imbalance include: gossiping, non-stop talking, arrogance and condescension.

The purpose of the 5th chakra is learning to take responsibility for one's own needs - this is in line with the start of each of our yoga classes together as I remind us to take responsibility for our lives, thoughts attitudes and actions.

The spiritual lessons are - confession, surrender, faith and truthfulness over deceit.

The mental and emotional issues are - personal expression, creativity, addiction, criticism, faith, decision making (choices), will and lack of authority.

The information stored inside the 5th chakra is - self knowledge, truth, attitudes, hearing, taste and smell.

The throat chakra is the gateway between the head and the heart. It is here we learn what is our own authentic voice - what we are meant to “say to the world”  during our time here on earth.

When I was completing my 200 hour teacher training, I had to lead a master class on the one chakra that resonated most with me.  It wasn’t hard to pick the throat chakra because at the time I was finally finding my authentic “voice”; by “voice” I mean my authentic self in all aspects - speaking my truth, acting in truthful ways and living the life I was learning I was meant to live.  In my earlier years I had many times of utter confusion as I had no idea who I was.   I was never quiet or settled enough to listen to my authentic voice inside of me.  During the time of my teacher training I was finally on a spiritual path of self inquiry and this chakra was fascinating to me.

Are you listening to your authentic voice? Does it line up with the voice of your higher power?  Do you speak your truth? Does your inside feelings and attitudes match who you present to the outer world?  Do you take actions from your true self?  As you can see, having our first 4 chakras in balance allows us to flow into this authentic place.
