September 2025 Week 4
I choose to have people around me who add to my peace
Happy fall!! Although wow we are having quite the beautiful extended summer this year. Nonetheless, energetically this autumn equinox seasonal turning point invites reflection, release, and renewal — a chance to let go of what no longer serves us and prepare for the months ahead with clarity and intention. Just as the trees release their leaves, we too can embrace this time as an opportunity to simplify and realign.
I am all in on “simplifying and realigning” and of course I feel like I am in a constant cycle of “reflecting, releasing and renewing”, so I am fully embracing this seasonal change.
I was reading something Jay Shetty wrote about the fall equinox and thought it offered us a great framework for reflecting -
He pointed out that “We put so much energy into holding onto things that don’t serve us. It takes so much energy to hold onto a relationship that makes us feel bad. It takes so much energy to walk into a job we hate.
What if, instead of clinging to the things that don’t serve us and feeding them negative energy, you redirected that energy towards something else?
What if you could let go the way a tree lets go of its old leaves? What if you could use that energy for yourself?
Try This: Think of all the leaves you’re holding onto right now. The responsibilities you have at home, at work, and in your social life. If you have the time, really list out each one. What are the tasks and the relationships you pour your energy into every day?
If these were actually leaves, what color would they be? Would they be bright, shiny green leaves, full of beautiful energy? Or would they be withering brown leaves that are sapping you dry?
What would it take to let go of those dying leaves?”
This reflective exercise can bring us to a deeper connection with our higher selves and what is important at the center of our being once the “other leaves” are discarded. Our sutra this month 1.24 - Ishwara is the Supreme Self, unaffected by any affliction, karma (action), consequence thereof, or impression of desires - brings us to those tiny moments of complete yogic bliss when nothing can disturb us. That is a beautiful place to retreat to for this letting go and simplifying. Try to answer the above questions and listen to this weeks meditation for some extra guidance.
One more thing before we go from a book I am reading, Living Untethered -
“The goal of this journey we are taking together is not to change your thoughts or emotions, it is for you to stay seated in the seat of Self while accepting these different shifts that are taking place. From this vantage point, the emotions can change, you can notice them changing, but you don’t go anywhere. You remain the one who notices the emotions, hears the thoughts, and looks out through the eyes. Who is this one? This is what our journey is about. There is no spirituality anywhere except in the seat of Self. Spirituality is about spirit, and the seat of Self is spirit.”
Let’s sit in the seat of Self this week and discern what we can discard and what we can amplify - all with the spirit of clarity and simplicity.
