November Week 4
Keep A Light Heart
Happy Thanksgiving, Happy time of gratitude!!!! For me I have a front and center reference for gratitude as I type this today, November 25th which is my 6th year anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis. On that day 6 years ago I was gripped in fear as my 3 boys traveled home from San Francisco, Winston Salem and Boston for Thanksgiving. Needless to say, it was an unsettling holiday which also spilled through Christmas. Full of fear I walked and a small part of faith. I leaned on my husband, sister and my spiritual tools. 6 years later my one son is her from LA and the other 2 arrive from NYC - everyone has shifted around, life has carried on and I do believe I lived these past years to the fullest. Simultaneously there was a profound shift in myself and my heart while I worked hard on my spiritual self. I softened around the edges, defrosted and feel today like I have “a light heart” - our intention is simple, yet powerful as is this months yoga sutra, 1.26: That (Ishvara / the inner guiding consciousness) is the teacher of all teachers, not limited by time.
This sutra says that there is a deep inner wisdom that has always been present — long before any human teacher, guru, or tradition.
We often think we learn yoga from a teacher, but this sutra reminds us that the truest teacher is inside us — the part that is calm, steady, and always aware. Outer teachers just help us remember what we already know.
“Yoga tells us that the most important teacher is the one inside — the quiet, wise part of you that’s always there. Every yoga pose, every breath, and every lesson in life is helping us reconnect with that inner guidance. Your teacher, your books, your classes — they just help you remember what your inner wisdom already knows.”
As I always say, I am truly walking along side of you and so grateful for you all because you make me keep learning and walking.
Happy Thanksgiving!!! Keep a light heart around your table!
