February 2021, Week 1

I am that, I am

“If the roots aren’t deep, the tree can’t stand the weather.” - Yogi Bhajan

This month our intention - I am that, I am is taken directly from Wayne Dyer’s vibrational meditation we used last month and we will continue to use this month.  In addition, this month we will focus on the 1st chakra, Muladara.  I mentioned in our meditation that we will use the next 7 months to study the 7 chakras and travel up the spine physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually.  I am excited for this work and what it can uncover for all of us, the chakras are an important tool in developing more awareness of our physical, mental and spiritual selves.  The cleanse this week has been a Chakra deep dive and it has been a perfect platform for self study.  IF you joined the cleanse, keep your journal going for the next 7 months and build on your self discovery during the cleanse.  I have mentioned, but its worth repeating, the Chakras are 7 energy centers located along our spine - starting with the first chakra at the base of the spine and the seventh chakra located at the crown of our head.

The 1st chakra, Muladara, is associated with the element of earth and it is referred to as the root chakra (hence the quote above about the tree roots lol).  In our physical body the root chakra is located at the base of the spine and radiates down our legs and feet.

This is the foundation of the Chakras on which the other energy centers in our body function.  Here think of the word “stability” when you think of a healthy 1st chakra.  It represents our physical identity - our ability to identify with our body and its needs.  It’s how we interface with the physical realms: our body, home, finances, work and environment.

It is associated with the survival instinct and the will to live, our basic health and vitality. Also think - stillness, stability, security.  In addition it is our  ability to be present, connected to ourself and our higher power

Your first Chakra can be out of balance in 2 ways - excessive or deficient:

1.Excessive -

Sluggish

Resistance to change

Overeating

Hoarding

Excessive spending

Workaholism

2.Deficient-

Fear

Depressed

Confused

Anxiety

Underweight

Flightiness

Disconnection from your body

Inability to sit still

Balanced 1st chakra:

Grounded

Physically healthy

Comfortable in your body

Sense of security and solidity

Ability to be still

Presence in the here and now

In reading through these characteristics of the first chakra, I can’t help but think about how I have measured up during the challenges of these past several months.  Read through the characteristics again and reflect on yourself.  How are you feeling as this pandemic drags along?  If you are participating in the cleanse, do you feel any different reading this now than you felt just a few days ago?

Each week I will write about this first chakra and in class we will move in a very grounded, stable way!
