December 2025 Week 1

Slow Down to the Speed of Joy

Welcome to December!! Hope you all had an amazing holiday weekend and did not wake up with too much anxiety Monday morning when you realized it was December 1st! Depending on your religious following this can be a very busy month full of your regular day to day responsibilities and then piled on top…..shopping, mailing, cooking, decorating, gathering, eating drinking and more gathering!!! Just typing this is making me anxious!!!!! Thank goodness for the gift of our time together and my intention this month which was inspired by a book I read and the author I am following during my religious season of advent….here goes….
Slow Down To The Speed Of Joy. What do you think? “When we move slower, joy has time to catch up.” Its truly the rhythm our bodies already remember but we rush past. To be honest I switched my intention Tuesday morning after listening to a morning meditation on this book. Here was my morning…..I was leading a group to volunteer at a local donation thrift shop to sort their Christmas donations at 10am. I woke in time to have my warm lemon water, time in prayer and meditation by the fire and a walk outside to the beach with my dog for morning fresh air. Of course I had already splashed my face with cold water and swished my mouth with coconut oil and scraped my tongue. All the things I highlight during the cleanse as tools to start our day - sounds lovely so far right? I then put on my headphones and listened to a meeting I wanted to be on zoom until 8:30 with my camera off as I made coffee, tea and a yogurt. Further, I changed into my bathing suit and dry robe for a quick dip in the ocean. Oh and I had thrown in a meeting at a neighbors a little after 9am to collect our thoughts on a group we will be leading in January. One of those gals texted me at 8:33am asking when I would pick her up and I said a little after 9 as I just needed a quick dip in the freezing cold ocean and a rinse off!!! The day began and off I went!!!!! This day continued in that fashion until I taught Yin at 5:30pm with our intention - “Slow Down To The Speed Of Joy”!!!!

Yesterday was my husband’s and my 31st wedding anniversary and I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say it began before 6, I left the house at 7:30 and with a few in and outs along the way I was home around 8pm. We had the most joy filled day for sure, but parts of it were definitely speedy lol. During a slower, quieter moment at lunch my husband asked me if it was possible for me to slow down. A lenten challenge we are following had the theme of Be Still and Know that I am God which he reminded me of and he was in Yin the night before hahahaha!
So here’s the thing - we have the most amazing, joy full plans ahead of us from now until January 6th, almost daily. In my morning quiet time I will make sure to check my priorities and to drop in and connect with myself. The real challenge for me is once I leave my sacred morning time and get moving and moving and moving.
“Joy lives in the spaces we usually rush past. Slow down, and let it walk beside you.”
So here is what I am going to do-
My morning will remain sacred. And I will journal my priorities for that one day.
Wherever I am, whatever I am doing - I will be present. No thoughts of the undone to do list, tomorrow’s plan or responsibility etc.
And I promise I will try to move slower and not rush past the Joy!
How about you? Are you moving too fast past the Joy? What will you do to jump into the Joy of this season, whatever you celebrate!
Would love to hear how you will show up this month.
